The final results from the first weekend of Winter Provincial Matchplays are available from the tournament site.

Well done to all those who took part and good luck to those who qualified for the National Matchplays.

UTP Ranking Changes and Interprovincial Eligibility

UTP Ranking System Changes

The following rules now apply to the UTP Rankings system:

1. From the 2014/5 season (the 2015 rankings), UTP ranking points will only be allocated to certain Irish tournaments outside of Ulster. The following events will qualify for ranking points; these are National-level tournaments and Provincial Grade 1 events:

  • National Winter Matchplays
  • National Spring Matchplays
  • National Indoor Championships
  • National Spring Championships
  • Templeogue Junior Open
  • Malahide Junior Open
  • Munster Junior Open
  • Leinster Junior Open
  • Connacht Junior Open
  • Irish Junior Open (Fitzwilliam)

No points will be given for any other Irish tournament outside of Ulster. It remains the responsibility of the player to ensure that an email is sent to the UTP email address This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it within 3 days of the completion of the above events for points to be allocated, with the exceptions of the National Matchplays, National Indoor Championships and the Irish Junior Open where points will be allocated automatically.

2. For Irish tournaments outside Ulster, where there is a qualifying draw, no points will be allocated for any qualifying matches, only for main draw results.

3. National and International events (ITF/ETA/LTA) – points will be allocated as before for main draw results, and for qualifying draws if a player wins (or receives a walkover in) at least one match. No points will be allocated if a player loses their first match in qualifying.

4. Ulster tournaments are unchanged and players will be allocated points automatically as before.

Ulster Interprovincial Eligibility

The following criteria will apply for eligibility for representation on Ulster Under 14 or Under 18 Interprovincial teams:

In order to be eligible for selection on an Ulster Interprovincial team, under normal circumstances players must play a minimum of three Ulster tournaments. Only one of the two Ulster Matchplay series events (Winter or Spring) may count towards this total, but not both, i.e. at least two of the three required tournaments must be non-matchplay events. National or International tournaments held in Ulster do not count as Ulster tournaments.

The Interprovincial team selection process will remain as before, i.e. each team will consist of the top four players in the UTP rankings at the time of selection plus a wild card as chosen by the non-playing captain (assuming players meet the eligibility criteria above). Players with a poor disciplinary record during the season may also be deemed ineligible for selection.

UTP Masters

The UTP Masters will NOT take place this coming weekend 5th-7th September as in previous years.

It will be run on another date - further details and schedule will be published as soon as they are available.

Belfast & District Juvenile League Fun Day 2014

Belfast & District Juvenile Fun Day
Saturday 13th September 2pm - 5pm @ Belfast Boat Club
We are very excited about the upcoming Juvenile Fun Day and hope that as many Juvenile Clubs as possible will support this event by bringing their players to enjoy what was a great day last year.
The event is open to all Juvenile players who competed in the Juvenile League 2014. Registration will open at the Boat Club from 1.30.p.m and we will be finished at 5 p.m. All players will be allocated to a team of 8 and will compete in various team sports from tennis, dodge ball, uni hockey, Treasure Hunt and Sports Quiz. Prizes will be awarded to the team with the highest points.
After the Team sports we will have a BBQ followed by the distribution of Juvenile League Awards. All League winning teams should ensure that they are represented to collect their Award but this event is a fun occasion for ALL players regardless of how many matches they played or how your team faired, so please encourage as many Juvenile players from your Club to attend as possible.
I would like to be as organised as possible prior to the Fun Day so would ask that you complete the Registration Form attached and return it to me no later than 31 August so that we can start allocating players to teams. If you wish to add a player before 13 September please e mail me before that day.
We would like to recognise the work of Volunteers in Juvenile Tennis. This League could not function without the volunteers who support the players so we would ask Clubs to make nominations on the Nomination Form . Please also nominate Club of the Year and Player of the Year .
Tea and Coffee will be available for visiting parents and coaches who bring their players and we would be delighted to see them there. Please ensure that players are suitably dressed for the event but if the weather is bad make sure that they have a change of clothes. We will make a few adjustments to the Programme if the weather is bad but will not cancel it. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact me on 07899701952. I look forward to seeing as many Clubs represented as possible.
