Belfast City Council Club & Player Funding Opportunities

Belfast City Council have opened their Support for Sport Grants for activities taking place from 1st April 2018. There are a number of grants which individual players and Clubs may be able to benefit from, including the Support for Sport: Individual Grant (up to £1k), Support for Sport: Small Development Grant (up to £1k) and the Support for Sport: Large Development Grant (up to £5k).

Support for Sport: Individual Grant (Up to £1k)

Parents of individual players who wish to apply for the Support for Sport: Individual Grant of up to £1k should review the guidance notes at https://www.belfastcity-grants.com/ and contact Lauren Smythe, UBTI Development Manager, for a template application form.

The relevant information should be returned to Lauren by 12pm on Friday 1st December 2017 to enable an application to be made on behalf of the player. Athletes Must:  Be residents of a Belfast City Council area or represent a sports club which is based in Belfast.  Currently be on Governing Body Elite/High Performance Squads or equivalent in an Olympic, Paralympic or Commonwealth Sport Athletes Must Not:  Be in receipt of Sport Northern Ireland’s Athlete Investment Programme (AIP) funding or hold an award from the Mary Peter’s Trust.  Be in receipt of funding from another Local Authority Eligible Project Costs:  Personal out of pocket expenses arising from travel to the rest of the UK or abroad to train  Participation in governing body approved competitions outside Northern Ireland  Sports Science/Sports Medical/Physiotherapy/Sports Psychology Support on the listed training/competition trips If the athlete has met all of the eligibility criteria, Belfast City Council will consider the following factors; 1. Competition levels 2. National Ranking 3. Results achieved in previous 12 months Please Note:  The Individual Grant is for activities taking place between the 1st April 2018 and 31st March 2019.

Support for Sport: Small Development Grants (Up to £1k)

Tennis Clubs who wish to apply should consider the following; Eligible Types of Project:

1. Coach education training -For clubs who want to train new or existing coaches in any area which will benefit the club. This includes all levels of accredited sports-specific coaching qualifications. 2. Club development training -For clubs that are working towards improving through achieving awards, such as Sports Equity, first aid qualifications, child protection training and fitness qualifications. 3. A ‘kick start’ -For new clubs that are starting up (or existing clubs that are starting up a new section), we can help with initial start up costs such as coaching costs and facility hire. Clubs with their own facilities may only apply for facility hire which is necessary to deliver outreach activities taking place elsewhere. Clubs who apply for this area of funding may also be eligible to apply for a one-off equipment grant. 4) A ‘try-it’ event -For clubs that want to hold an event to promote their organisation or sport and to attract more people to join. We will only offer funding to programmes that are additional to normal club training sessions. Funding will cover costs such as facility hire (if the event is being held outside your club’s facilities), coaching costs, marketing, officials’ costs, medals, trophies and certificates. 5. A Sports Festival / Development event- For clubs wishing to organise an event to provide new competitive opportunities for junior or beginner members, or to raise the club’s profile. This might include facility hire (only if the event is being held outside the club’s own facilities) officials’ costs, medals, trophies and certificates. 6. Equipment grant -You can apply for an equipment grant. This is a one off payment of £250 towards the purchase of new training equipment for new clubs or new sections within existing clubs that have been established within the past three years. The equipment must be for club use. Equipment for individual/personal use is not eligible. Eligible Project Costs This scheme can be used to pay for:  Staff costs (coaches, umpires, referees) where they have appropriate qualifications and have been checked through Access NI if appropriate  Tutor costs or course fees provided by governing bodies or recognised training providers  Marketing materials up to a maximum of £200  Facility hire for events outside club premises · Marketing materials up to a maximum of £200  Travel within Belfast for visiting teams  Medals, certificates, and trophies up to a maximum of £200 Please Note:  The Support for Sport: Small Development Grant is for activities taking place between the 1st April 2018 and 30th September 2018.  Belfast Tennis Clubs who would like to apply for the Support for Sport: Small Development Grant should review the guidance notes and apply directly at https://www.belfastcity-grants.com/ by the deadline of 12 noon on Friday 12th January 2018.

Support for Sport:Large Development Grants (Up to £5k)

This grant is designed for Belfast based sports clubs who wish to develop by undertaking a new project. Organisations must have/ be:

 A club or a constituted community group with a current membership affiliated to a governing body that is recognised by Sport NI or Belfast City Council (National Governing Bodies are not eligible to apply)  Belfast based, that is, must meet, train, compete and be administered within Belfast and / or have Belfast residents comprising at least 75% of its membership.  Have in place a current, active club development plan covering a minimum of three years.  Have a National Governing Body Development plan  Open to all sections of the community. Eligible Project Costs This scheme is aimed at encouraging the development of sports within the Belfast area, either through the growth of existing clubs, or through projects aimed at encouraging new people to take up sporting activity.
