The 2012 UTP Masters event took place on the weekend of 7th to 9th September at venues in the Belfast and South Eastern region. This is the fifth year of the Masters and competition was as keen as ever for all of the players who qualified through the UTP Masters Race points during the 2012 season.

For the group matches Belfast Boat Club, CIYMS and Ward Park were used and saw some excellent matches on the Friday and Saturday as players battled to qualify for the closing stages on Sunday at Boat Club.

In the Under 12 events, Rory Cunningham reached his first junior final with a close fought win over Harry Ellesmere in the semi-final and faced top seed Jordan McKeown in the final. Another close match ensued with Jordan's experience holding off Rory to win in a close champions tie-break. In the girls event, number one seed Eimear Smyth survived a match of two tie-breaks against Emma McGugan to face Jessica Moore who had got past Lily McKane. Jessica came through to win the final in straight sets.

The Under 14 boys event saw rivals Jakob Robb and Matthew O'Boyle face off in the final after a number of matches this season, after semi-final wins over Matthew Robinson and Leon Gibson respectively. After another very close match, Matthew held on in the champions tie-break to win 10-5 with some great tennis from both players. In the girls event, both Laura Griffin and Emma Coalter performed well to reach the semi-finals but could not get past Amy Rothwell and Lauren Russell - Amy went on to win the final over Lauren 6-2 7-5.

Chris Madden-McKee came through a long semi-final against Drew Getty 7-6 6-4 in the Under 16s, to face David Weir again in the final. Again this match went all the way with Chris winning it 10-7 in the tie-breaker. Caitlin McCullough won the Under 16 Girls, remaining unbeaten in the round robin with wins on Sunday against her sister Annie and Zoe Dickson.

Ben Kelly finished his junior tournament career in fine style by winning the Under 18 Boys over David Acum in the final. Both players had tough semi-finals earlier on Sunday against Justin Gilmore and Milan Ferguson respectively.

Well done to all players who took part after a long tournament season.

Full results from the weekend are available from the tournament site.
