Tennis fans from around the Province are in for a real treat when top Ulster Junior players take to the courts to compete against International opposition in the ITF event.

The Lord Mayor Nichola Mallon attended the event along with representatives from Tennis Ireland and Ulster Tennis, Sport NI and sponsors.

Stephen Reid Secretary Ulster Branch Tennis Ireland said “Organising this prestigious event in Northern Ireland gives our junior players an excellent chance to test their performance against the best in the world on their doorstep and showcase tennis to the Northern Ireland public.  It will help UBTI achieve one of its main aims to develop improved performance pathways for Ulster players.”

Dermot MacCann Chairman of Windsor Tennis Club said “Karola is part of our Elite Squad at Windsor and we are delighted to be bringing this ITF event to Belfast. With over 250 juniors at the club we have all year round tennis squads thanks to our state-of-the-art SuperDome which is up for 6 months of the year allowing players to train all year round. The whole club will be out supporting Karola along with her dad Leonard who devotes all his time to helping her become the best. We are particularly pleased to have attracted sponsorship locally and we hope that this will start more financial investment for the players and the sport.”

Sam Armstrong, Ulster Tennis Under 18 Coach said “"Many of our Ulster players have spent the year travelling far and wide to compete in ITF tournaments. It will be a nice change for the players to compete at this level in Belfast. Playing at home will bring an added incentive and additional encouragement to all players"

UBTI President, George Stevenson, said, “I would like to thank members of UBTI and Windsor Lawn Tennis Club for their hard work and commitment in organizing the ITF tournament and for the financial support from all sponsors.  We welcome everyone to come and support the players during their matches at Windsor from 26th July to 1st August 2014.”
