RSA NI Insurance Irish Indoor Veterans Championships 2016

RSA NI Insurance LTD Irish Indoor Veterans’ Championships 2016 at David Lloyd, Belfast

- Report February 2016

190 players from across Ireland took part in the RSA NI Insurance LTD Irish Indoor Veterans’ Championships 2016 at David Lloyd, Belfast, from Friday 19th to Sunday 21st February 2016.  This was the biggest entry ever in the history of the event, with players travelling from across Ireland, and for the first time more females than male players entered the tournament.

To cater for this huge entry three other local Belfast Tennis Clubs provided use of their courts throughout the weekend.  The Tournament Committee extend their sincere thanks to the members of Windsor, Belfast Boat Club and CIYMS for hosting 30 % of the matches and to the members of David Lloyd where 70% of the matches took place.

There were many local players amongst the list of winners, including Brian McRandal in the Men’s Singles Over 40’s, Deirdre Johnston in the Ladies Singles Over 40’s, Hans-Henrik Enoksen in the Men’s Singles Over 50’s. Tracey Carruthers in the Ladies Singles Over 50’s, Willie Noteman in the Men’s Singles Over 55’s, Neagle Cathcart in the Men’s Singles Over 60’s,  Paul Wallace in the Men’s Singles Over 65’s and Irene Hewitt in the Ladies Singles Over 65’s.  A full list of winners can be found at the following link

The Tournament Committee is grateful for the on-going support of the main sponsor, RSA NI Insurance LTD, as well as to other sponsors such as Rocklyn Sports, Gransha Dental Surgery, Neal Lucas Recruitment, Hastings Hotels, Teamkit, Noteman McKee Architects, Gotto Sports, Target Dry, Bosch, James Street South, Dulux, Carlos Mirandas, Lynsey McCullough, Geraldine Fredlander, 2 Irish Veteran players who made donations of £500 each and Johnane Henderson for providing the flowers.

UBTI acknowledge the great work of the Committee in organising and delivering this event, and particularly to Tournament Referee, Michael Lindores who ensured that the matches flowed smoothly throughout the weekend in his first year in the role.

Thank you to everyone who took part this year and we look forward to meeting you again at David Lloyd in 2017.
